If you ever make the mistake of having to remodel your home, just know that everything that people say about costs running up unexpectedly, having to go back several times to pick the right paint, etc are true.

What started out as a simple dishwasher purchase has just turned into a major revamp of my kitchen.

Right now I've got the phone to my ear while on hold because something got banged up during delivery and now I have get this resolved.

I've done and seen many things in my life, one thing I will NEVER do again is wallpaper. Never. again.

Wallpaper is bad.
Only the person who picks it out will like it.
Removing wallpaper is worse.

So I've heard.

Remodeling is also very expensive. I started looking around for a simple chair for my room about a year ago. Since then, I ended up buying a t.v stand, a glass top desk, a glass top dresser, an office chair and a futon. I still need a new t.v and a new paint job before my room is done.

it depends on what you are doing ....etc.
My mom LOVED wallpaper.....so every room in the house I grew up in had it---and WE put it up ourselves....so yeah learned how to do that at a very young age (and that wall paper paste smells yukkkkkky).....I am not a fan of wall paper, though I can see its uses. I would rather paint---and have done so on many occasions .
Would LOVE to remodel our kitchen, but havent got the space to put the stuff thats in there during the remodel, dont think the ass. will even allow it as we dont own the other side of the wall ----dont ask---and I really dont have the money to do it (see: unemployment)...but I wanted to move the fridge out of the corner so I could get some more counter and cabinet space (right now it opens so that the door is parallel to the wall thus rendering that wall totally useless

)...and I currently have only ONE lower cabinet (not counting the one under the sink--eeewww)....the person who designed my condo should have flunked design school!

Putting in laminate flooring and vinyl sheet flooring while 8 months pregnant was fun.

5 years and two kids later I still have 3 rooms to paint. We have had the furnace and AC replaced, new gutters, new windows and patio doors, duct system replaced (1/3 of the vents were not hooked into the duct system, was unbalanced, and the ducting was all the wrong size anyhow. Thanks Mr. Inspector for catching that along with the dozen other problems. Your opinion that the worst thing was non GFCI outlets was really on the mark.) Then this spring we had a pipe break in the laundry room and found out that room was done in PB pipe (disclosure said there was none and inspector missed it even though it was viewable in 3 places.) When the floor was opened to replace the pipes we found out there was an uncapped and shattered sewer gas pipe which had been 'repaired' with duct tape in other spots. Also that day we found out our house was not on public sewer (listing, disclosure, appraisal all said that) but was on a septic tank, which was broken and leaking into the yard all this time (thought the nice grass was just because the yard sloped to there bringing all the water and that the occasional smell was the neighbors dogs.) and hadn't been pumped in 15+ years. What a learning experience this has been. A pipe repair sure grew in costs, but at least we arent being slowly poisoned anymore.

Sounds like a classic "Money Pit". The inspector must have been paid off by the seller.
